Deuteronomy 21

כִּי יִמָּצֵ֣א חָלָ֗ל בָּאֲדָמָה֙ אֲשֶׁר֩ יְהוָ֨ה אֱלֹהֶ֜יךָ נֹתֵ֤ן לְךָ֙ לְרִשְׁתָּ֔הּ נֹפֵ֖ל בַּשָּׂדֶ֑ה לֹ֥א נוֹדַ֖ע מִ֥י הִכָּֽהוּ

that · to find · slain · in/at the ground · which · LORD · God(s) your · giving · to/for you · to inherit her · falling · in/at the field · not · to know · who · to strike him

וְיָצְא֥וּ זְקֵנֶ֖יךָ וְשֹׁפְטֶ֑יךָ וּמָדְדוּ֙ אֶל הֶ֣עָרִ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֖ר סְבִיבֹ֥ת הֶחָלָֽל

and to go out · old your · and judging you · and to measure · to · the cities · which · surroundings of · the slain

וְהָיָ֣ה הָעִ֔יר הַקְּרֹבָ֖ה אֶל הֶחָלָ֑ל וְלָֽקְח֡וּ זִקְנֵי֩ הָעִ֨יר הַהִ֜וא עֶגְלַ֣ת בָּקָ֗ר אֲשֶׁ֤ר לֹֽא עֻבַּד֙ בָּ֔הּ אֲשֶׁ֥ר לֹא מָשְׁכָ֖ה בְּעֹֽל

and to be · the city · the near · to · the slain · and to take · old of · the city · the he · heifer of · cattle · which · not · to serve · in/at her · which · not · to draw · in/at yoke

וְהוֹרִ֡דוּ זִקְנֵי֩ הָעִ֨יר הַהִ֤וא אֶת הָֽעֶגְלָה֙ אֶל נַ֣חַל אֵיתָ֔ן אֲשֶׁ֛ר לֹא יֵעָבֵ֥ד בּ֖וֹ וְלֹ֣א יִזָּרֵ֑עַ וְעָֽרְפוּ שָׁ֥ם אֶת הָעֶגְלָ֖ה בַּנָּֽחַל

and to go down · old of · the city · the he · - · the heifer · to · wadi · perpetual · which · not · to serve · in/at him · and not · to sow · and to break neck · there · - · the heifer · in/at the wadi

וְנִגְּשׁ֣וּ הַכֹּהֲנִים֮ בְּנֵ֣י לֵוִי֒ כִּ֣י בָ֗ם בָּחַ֞ר יְהוָ֤ה אֱלֹהֶ֨יךָ֙ לְשָׁ֣רְת֔וֹ וּלְבָרֵ֖ךְ בְּשֵׁ֣ם יְהוָ֑ה וְעַל פִּיהֶ֥ם יִהְיֶ֖ה כָּל רִ֥יב וְכָל נָֽגַע

and to approach · the priests · sons of · Levi · that · in/at them · to choose · LORD · God(s) your · to minister him · and to bless · in/at name of · LORD · and upon · mouth their · to be · all of · strife · and all of · plague

וְכֹ֗ל זִקְנֵי֙ הָעִ֣יר הַהִ֔וא הַקְּרֹבִ֖ים אֶל הֶחָלָ֑ל יִרְחֲצוּ֙ אֶת יְדֵיהֶ֔ם עַל הָעֶגְלָ֖ה הָעֲרוּפָ֥ה בַנָּֽחַל

and all of · old of · the city · the he · the near · to · the slain · to wash · - · hands their · upon · the heifer · the broken neck · in/at the wadi

וְעָנ֖וּ וְאָמְר֑וּ יָדֵ֗ינוּ לֹ֤א שפכה שָֽׁפְכוּ֙ אֶת הַדָּ֣ם הַזֶּ֔ה וְעֵינֵ֖ינוּ לֹ֥א רָאֽוּ

and to answer · and to say · hands our · not · to pour · to pour · - · the blood · the this · and eyes our · not · to see

כַּפֵּר֩ לְעַמְּךָ֨ יִשְׂרָאֵ֤ל אֲשֶׁר פָּדִ֨יתָ֙ יְהוָ֔ה וְאַל תִּתֵּן֙ דָּ֣ם נָקִ֔י בְּקֶ֖רֶב עַמְּךָ֣ יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וְנִכַּפֵּ֥ר לָהֶ֖ם הַדָּֽם

atone · to/for people your · Israel · which · to redeem · LORD · and not · to give · blood · innocent · in/at midst of · people your · Israel · and to atone · to/for them · the blood

וְאַתָּ֗ה תְּבַעֵ֛ר הַדָּ֥ם הַנָּקִ֖י מִקִּרְבֶּ֑ךָ כִּֽי תַעֲשֶׂ֥ה הַיָּשָׁ֖ר בְּעֵינֵ֥י יְהוָֽה

and you · to burn · the blood · the innocent · from midst your · that · to do · the upright · in/at eyes of · LORD

כִּֽי תֵצֵ֥א לַמִּלְחָמָ֖ה עַל אֹיְבֶ֑יךָ וּנְתָנ֞וֹ יְהוָ֧ה אֱלֹהֶ֛יךָ בְּיָדֶ֖ךָ וְשָׁבִ֥יתָ שִׁבְיֽוֹ

that · to go out · to/for the battle · upon · enemy you · and to give him · LORD · God(s) your · in/at hand your · and to capture · captivity his

וְרָאִיתָ֙ בַּשִּׁבְיָ֔ה אֵ֖שֶׁת יְפַת תֹּ֑אַר וְחָשַׁקְתָּ֣ בָ֔הּ וְלָקַחְתָּ֥ לְךָ֖ לְאִשָּֽׁה

and to see · in/at the captivity · woman of · beautiful of · form · and to love · in/at her · and to take · to/for you · to/for woman

וַהֲבֵאתָ֖הּ אֶל תּ֣וֹךְ בֵּיתֶ֑ךָ וְגִלְּחָה֙ אֶת רֹאשָׁ֔הּ וְעָשְׂתָ֖ה אֶת צִפָּרְנֶֽיהָ

and to enter her · to · midst of · house your · and to shave · - · head her · and to do · - · fingernails her

וְהֵסִ֩ירָה֩ אֶת שִׂמְלַ֨ת שִׁבְיָ֜הּ מֵעָלֶ֗יהָ וְיָֽשְׁבָה֙ בְּבֵיתֶ֔ךָ וּבָֽכְתָ֛ה אֶת אָבִ֥יהָ וְאֶת אִמָּ֖הּ יֶ֣רַח יָמִ֑ים וְאַ֨חַר כֵּ֜ן תָּב֤וֹא אֵלֶ֨יהָ֙ וּבְעַלְתָּ֔הּ וְהָיְתָ֥ה לְךָ֖ לְאִשָּֽׁה

and to turn aside · - · garment of · captivity her · from upon her · and to dwell · in/at house your · and to weep · - · father her · and - · mother her · month of · days · and after · thus · to enter · to her · and to marry her · and to be · to/for you · to/for woman

וְהָיָ֞ה אִם לֹ֧א חָפַ֣צְתָּ בָּ֗הּ וְשִׁלַּחְתָּהּ֙ לְנַפְשָׁ֔הּ וּמָכֹ֥ר לֹא תִמְכְּרֶ֖נָּה בַּכָּ֑סֶף לֹא תִתְעַמֵּ֣ר בָּ֔הּ תַּ֖חַת אֲשֶׁ֥ר עִנִּיתָֽהּ

and to be · if · not · to delight in · in/at her · and to send her · to/for soul her · and to sell · not · to sell her · in/at the silver · not · to bind sheaves · in/at her · under · which · to afflict her

כִּֽי תִהְיֶ֨יןָ לְאִ֜ישׁ שְׁתֵּ֣י נָשִׁ֗ים הָאַחַ֤ת אֲהוּבָה֙ וְהָאַחַ֣ת שְׂנוּאָ֔ה וְיָֽלְדוּ ל֣וֹ בָנִ֔ים הָאֲהוּבָ֖ה וְהַשְּׂנוּאָ֑ה וְהָיָ֛ה הַבֵּ֥ן הַבְּכ֖וֹר לַשְּׂנִיאָֽה

that · to be · to/for man · two · women · the one · loved · and the one · hated · and to bear · to/for him · sons · the loved · and the hated · and to be · the son · the firstborn · to/for the hated

וְהָיָ֗ה בְּיוֹם֙ הַנְחִיל֣וֹ אֶת בָּנָ֔יו אֵ֥ת אֲשֶׁר יִהְיֶ֖ה ל֑וֹ לֹ֣א יוּכַ֗ל לְבַכֵּר֙ אֶת בֶּן הָ֣אֲהוּבָ֔ה עַל פְּנֵ֥י בֶן הַשְּׂנוּאָ֖ה הַבְּכֹֽר

כִּי֩ אֶת הַבְּכֹ֨ר בֶּן הַשְּׂנוּאָ֜ה יַכִּ֗יר לָ֤תֶת לוֹ֙ פִּ֣י שְׁנַ֔יִם בְּכֹ֥ל אֲשֶׁר יִמָּצֵ֖א ל֑וֹ כִּי הוּא֙ רֵאשִׁ֣ית אֹנ֔וֹ ל֖וֹ מִשְׁפַּ֥ט הַבְּכֹרָֽה

כִּֽי יִהְיֶ֣ה לְאִ֗ישׁ בֵּ֚ן סוֹרֵ֣ר וּמוֹרֶ֔ה אֵינֶ֣נּוּ שֹׁמֵ֔עַ בְּק֥וֹל אָבִ֖יו וּבְק֣וֹל אִמּ֑וֹ וְיסְּר֣וּ אֹת֔וֹ וְלֹ֥א יִשְׁמַ֖ע אֲלֵיהֶֽם

that · to be · to/for man · son · rebelling · and rebelling · nothing him · hearing · in/at voice of · father his · and in/at voice of · mother his · and to discipline · - him · and not · to hear · to them

וְתָ֥פְשׂוּ ב֖וֹ אָבִ֣יו וְאִמּ֑וֹ וְהוֹצִ֧יאוּ אֹת֛וֹ אֶל זִקְנֵ֥י עִיר֖וֹ וְאֶל שַׁ֥עַר מְקֹמֽוֹ

and to seize · in/at him · father his · and mother his · and to go out · - him · to · old of · city his · and to · gate of · place his

וְאָמְר֞וּ אֶל זִקְנֵ֣י עִיר֗וֹ בְּנֵ֤נוּ זֶה֙ סוֹרֵ֣ר וּמֹרֶ֔ה אֵינֶ֥נּוּ שֹׁמֵ֖עַ בְּקֹלֵ֑נוּ זוֹלֵ֖ל וְסֹבֵֽא

and to say · to · old of · city his · son our · this · rebelling · and rebelling · nothing him · hearing · in/at voice our · being worthless · and drink

וּ֠רְגָמֻהוּ כָּל אַנְשֵׁ֨י עִיר֤וֹ בָֽאֲבָנִים֙ וָמֵ֔ת וּבִֽעַרְתָּ֥ הָרָ֖ע מִקִּרְבֶּ֑ךָ וְכָל יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל יִשְׁמְע֥וּ וְיִרָֽאוּ

and to stone him · all of · men of · city his · in/at the stones · and to die · and to burn · the evil · from midst your · and all of · Israel · to hear · and to fear

וְכִֽי יִהְיֶ֣ה בְאִ֗ישׁ חֵ֛טְא מִשְׁפַּט מָ֖וֶת וְהוּמָ֑ת וְתָלִ֥יתָ אֹת֖וֹ עַל עֵֽץ

and that · to be · in/at man · sin of · judgment of · death · and to die · and to hang · - him · upon · tree

לֹא תָלִ֨ין נִבְלָת֜וֹ עַל הָעֵ֗ץ כִּֽי קָב֤וֹר תִּקְבְּרֶ֨נּוּ֙ בַּיּ֣וֹם הַה֔וּא כִּֽי קִלְלַ֥ת אֱלֹהִ֖ים תָּל֑וּי וְלֹ֤א תְטַמֵּא֙ אֶת אַדְמָ֣תְךָ֔ אֲשֶׁר֙ יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ נֹתֵ֥ן לְךָ֖ נַחֲלָֽה
