Hebrew & Septuagint length

In English translation the verse runs 25 words from the Hebrew and 26 from the Septuagint (LXX English) — closely comparable.

A rough comparison of the two English renderings, which tokenize alike — not a word-level alignment.

Word counts can differ between the Hebrew and the Greek without any difference in meaning — e.g. the Hebrew direct-object marker אֵת has no separate Greek word, and Greek often adds the article ὁ.

In the original languages it is 14 Hebrew tokens and 21 Greek tokens — but the two are counted differently (Hebrew bundles its prefixes and suffixes into one token; the Greek is in lemma form), so that isn’t a like-for-like length.

Commentary

Notes on 2 Chronicles 28:25 from classic Christian and Jewish commentators (each source and its license shown beneath its notes). John Trapp

2Ch 28:25 And in every several city of Judah he made high places to burn incense unto other gods, and provoked to anger the LORD God of his fathers.

Ver. 25. And in every several city of Judah.] So zealous are idolaters, and busy in digging descents down to hell, and destroying souls; the pseudo-Catholics, for instance.

Ellicott's Commentary for English Readers

(25) And in every several city of Judah he made high places.—Comp. 2Ch_28:2-4.

And provoked to anger.—Deu_32:16. Instead of this 2Ch_28:18 obscurely mentions further changes which Ahaz made in the Temple, “for fear of the king of Assyria." It seems probable that the sacrilege described in 2Ch_28:24 and in 2Ki_16:17-18, was perpetrated in collecting everything of any value to send to the rapacious Assyrian.
