1 Samuel 8

וַיְהִ֕י כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר זָקֵ֖ן שְׁמוּאֵ֑ל וַיָּ֧שֶׂם אֶת בָּנָ֛יו שֹׁפְטִ֖ים לְיִשְׂרָאֵֽל

וַיְהִ֞י שֶׁם בְּנ֤וֹ הַבְּכוֹר֙ יוֹאֵ֔ל וְשֵׁ֥ם מִשְׁנֵ֖הוּ אֲבִיָּ֑ה שֹׁפְטִ֖ים בִּבְאֵ֥ר שָֽׁבַע

וְלֹֽא הָלְכ֤וּ בָנָיו֙ בדרכו בִּדְרָכָ֔יו וַיִּטּ֖וּ אַחֲרֵ֣י הַבָּ֑צַע וַיִּ֨קְחוּ שֹׁ֔חַד וַיַּטּ֖וּ מִשְׁפָּֽט

and not · to walk · sons his · in/at way his · in/at ways his · and to stretch out · after · the unjust gain · and to take · present · and to stretch out · judgment

וַיִּֽתְקַבְּצ֔וּ כֹּ֖ל זִקְנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וַיָּבֹ֥אוּ אֶל שְׁמוּאֵ֖ל הָרָמָֽתָה

and to gather · all of · old of · Israel · and to enter · to · Samuel · the Ramah toward

וַיֹּאמְר֣וּ אֵלָ֗יו הִנֵּה֙ אַתָּ֣ה זָקַ֔נְתָּ וּבָנֶ֕יךָ לֹ֥א הָלְכ֖וּ בִּדְרָכֶ֑יךָ עַתָּ֗ה שִֽׂימָה לָּ֥נוּ מֶ֛לֶךְ לְשָׁפְטֵ֖נוּ כְּכָל הַגּוֹיִֽם

and to say · to him · behold · you · to be old · and sons your · not · to walk · in/at ways your · now · put · to/for us · king · to judge us · like/as all of · the nations

וַיֵּ֤רַע הַדָּבָר֙ בְּעֵינֵ֣י שְׁמוּאֵ֔ל כַּאֲשֶׁ֣ר אָמְר֔וּ תְּנָה לָּ֥נוּ מֶ֖לֶךְ לְשָׁפְטֵ֑נוּ וַיִּתְפַּלֵּ֥ל שְׁמוּאֵ֖ל אֶל יְהוָֽה

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר יְהוָה֙ אֶל שְׁמוּאֵ֔ל שְׁמַע֙ בְּק֣וֹל הָעָ֔ם לְכֹ֥ל אֲשֶׁר יֹאמְר֖וּ אֵלֶ֑יךָ כִּ֣י לֹ֤א אֹֽתְךָ֙ מָאָ֔סוּ כִּֽי אֹתִ֥י מָאֲס֖וּ מִמְּלֹ֥ךְ עֲלֵיהֶֽם

כְּכָֽל הַמַּעֲשִׂ֣ים אֲשֶׁר עָשׂ֗וּ מִיּוֹם֩ הַעֲלֹתִ֨י אֹתָ֤ם מִמִּצְרַ֨יִם֙ וְעַד הַיּ֣וֹם הַזֶּ֔ה וַיַּ֣עַזְבֻ֔נִי וַיַּעַבְד֖וּ אֱלֹהִ֣ים אֲחֵרִ֑ים כֵּ֛ן הֵ֥מָּה עֹשִׂ֖ים גַּם לָֽךְ

like/as all of · the works · which · to do · from day of · to go up me · - them · from Egypt · and until · the day · the this · and to leave me · and to serve · God(s) · other · thus · they · doing · also · to/for you

וְעַתָּ֖ה שְׁמַ֣ע בְּקוֹלָ֑ם אַ֗ךְ כִּֽי הָעֵ֤ד תָּעִיד֙ בָּהֶ֔ם וְהִגַּדְתָּ֣ לָהֶ֔ם מִשְׁפַּ֣ט הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ אֲשֶׁ֥ר יִמְלֹ֖ךְ עֲלֵיהֶֽם

and now · hear · in/at voice their · surely · that · to testify · to testify · in/at them · and to make known · to/for them · judgment of · the king · which · to reign · upon them

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר שְׁמוּאֵ֔ל אֵ֖ת כָּל דִּבְרֵ֣י יְהוָ֑ה אֶל הָעָ֕ם הַשֹּׁאֲלִ֥ים מֵאִתּ֖וֹ מֶֽלֶךְ

וַיֹּ֕אמֶר זֶ֗ה יִֽהְיֶה֙ מִשְׁפַּ֣ט הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ אֲשֶׁ֥ר יִמְלֹ֖ךְ עֲלֵיכֶ֑ם אֶת בְּנֵיכֶ֣ם יִקָּ֗ח וְשָׂ֥ם לוֹ֙ בְּמֶרְכַּבְתּ֣וֹ וּבְפָרָשָׁ֔יו וְרָצ֖וּ לִפְנֵ֥י מֶרְכַּבְתּֽוֹ

וְלָשׂ֣וּם ל֔וֹ שָׂרֵ֥י אֲלָפִ֖ים וְשָׂרֵ֣י חֲמִשִּׁ֑ים וְלַחֲרֹ֤שׁ חֲרִישׁוֹ֙ וְלִקְצֹ֣ר קְצִיר֔וֹ וְלַעֲשׂ֥וֹת כְּלֵֽי מִלְחַמְתּ֖וֹ וּכְלֵ֥י רִכְבּֽוֹ

and to put · to/for him · princes of · thousand · and princes of · fifty · and to plough · ploughing his · and to be short · harvest his · and to do · vessels of · battle his · and vessels of · chariot his

וְאֶת בְּנוֹתֵיכֶ֖ם יִקָּ֑ח לְרַקָּח֥וֹת וּלְטַבָּח֖וֹת וּלְאֹפֽוֹת

and - · daughters your · to take · to/for perfumers · and to/for cooks · and to/for baking

וְאֶת שְׂ֠דֽוֹתֵיכֶם וְאֶת כַּרְמֵיכֶ֧ם וְזֵיתֵיכֶ֛ם הַטּוֹבִ֖ים יִקָּ֑ח וְנָתַ֖ן לַעֲבָדָֽיו

and - · fields your · and - · vineyards your · and olives your · the good · to take · and to give · to/for servants his

וְזַרְעֵיכֶ֥ם וְכַרְמֵיכֶ֖ם יַעְשֹׂ֑ר וְנָתַ֥ן לְסָרִיסָ֖יו וְלַעֲבָדָֽיו

and seeds your · and vineyards your · to tithe · and to give · to/for eunuchs his · and to/for servants his

וְאֶת עַבְדֵיכֶם֩ וְֽאֶת שִׁפְח֨וֹתֵיכֶ֜ם וְאֶת בַּחוּרֵיכֶ֧ם הַטּוֹבִ֛ים וְאֶת חֲמוֹרֵיכֶ֖ם יִקָּ֑ח וְעָשָׂ֖ה לִמְלַאכְתּֽוֹ

and - · servants your · and - · maids your · and - · young men your · the good · and - · donkeys your · to take · and to do · to/for work his

צֹאנְכֶ֖ם יַעְשֹׂ֑ר וְאַתֶּ֖ם תִּֽהְיוּ ל֥וֹ לַעֲבָדִֽים

flock your · to tithe · and you · to be · to/for him · to/for servants

וּזְעַקְתֶּם֙ בַּיּ֣וֹם הַה֔וּא מִלִּפְנֵ֣י מַלְכְּכֶ֔ם אֲשֶׁ֥ר בְּחַרְתֶּ֖ם לָכֶ֑ם וְלֹֽא יַעֲנֶ֧ה יְהוָ֛ה אֶתְכֶ֖ם בַּיּ֥וֹם הַהֽוּא

and to cry out · in/at the day · the he · from to/for face(s) of · king your · which · to choose · to/for you · and not · to answer · LORD · - you · in/at the day · the he

וַיְמָאֲנ֣וּ הָעָ֔ם לִשְׁמֹ֖עַ בְּק֣וֹל שְׁמוּאֵ֑ל וַיֹּאמְר֣וּ לֹּ֔א כִּ֥י אִם מֶ֖לֶךְ יִֽהְיֶ֥ה עָלֵֽינוּ

and to refuse · the people · to hear · in/at voice of · Samuel · and to say · not · that · if · king · to be · upon us

וְהָיִ֥ינוּ גַם אֲנַ֖חְנוּ כְּכָל הַגּוֹיִ֑ם וּשְׁפָטָ֤נוּ מַלְכֵּ֨נוּ֙ וְיָצָ֣א לְפָנֵ֔ינוּ וְנִלְחַ֖ם אֶת מִלְחֲמֹתֵֽנוּ

and to be · also · we · like/as all of · the nations · and to judge us · king our · and to go out · to/for face(s) our · and to fight · - · battles our

וַיִּשְׁמַ֣ע שְׁמוּאֵ֔ל אֵ֖ת כָּל דִּבְרֵ֣י הָעָ֑ם וַֽיְדַבְּרֵ֖ם בְּאָזְנֵ֥י יְהוָֽה

and to hear · Samuel · - · all of · words of · the people · and to speak them · in/at ears of · LORD

וַיֹּ֨אמֶר יְהוָ֤ה אֶל שְׁמוּאֵל֙ שְׁמַ֣ע בְּקוֹלָ֔ם וְהִמְלַכְתָּ֥ לָהֶ֖ם מֶ֑לֶךְ וַיֹּ֤אמֶר שְׁמוּאֵל֙ אֶל אַנְשֵׁ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל לְכ֖וּ אִ֥ישׁ לְעִירֽוֹ
